A Virginia state trooper who was helping to investigate one motorist for possibly driving under the influence was injured Saturday by another motorist who was then charged with driving under the influence.

The incident occurred about 3 a.m. Saturday in the southbound lanes of the Henry G. Shirley Memorial Highway north of Exit 3 in the Alexandria area, the state police said.

State police said Trooper Z. J. Koon was parked behind another trooper, to aid in the DUI investigation, when his patrol car was struck by an Infiniti.

Police said the trooper suffered a minor head injury and was treated at the scene.

The driver of the Infiniti was not injured. State police said Dilzzola Kunia, 38, of Alexandria, was arrested on a charge of DUI and taken to the Alexandria adult detention center.

State police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said the motorist who was originally being investigated was also charged with DUI.
