Blue Jays snap Royals’ winning streak at six
Braves: RHP Jason Grilli suffered a left Achilles’ rupture in the bottom of the ninth inning of a 3-2 loss to the Rockies, tumbling to the ground as he ran toward first to cover the bag. Atlanta said the reliever, 38, likely will miss the rest of the season.
Indians: Put IF Mike Aviles on the family medical emergency list for the second time this season. Aviles’s 4-year-old daughter, Adriana, was diagnosed with leukemia in May and has been undergoing treatment.
Marlins: 2B Dee Gordon has been ruled out of the All-Star Game because of a dislocated left thumb but says he thinks he avoided serious injury. Gordon left Miami’s 14-3 win against Cincinnati in the seventh inning after he was hurt beating out an infield hit with a headfirst slide. Rockies SS Troy Tulowitzki will replace Gordon on the NL’s active roster, and Colorado 2B DJ LeMahieu will replace Gordon in the starting lineup.
Red Sox: Placed RHP Clay Buchholz on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right elbow he suffered in Friday’s start. To take his place, the club selected LHP Brian Johnson, a highly touted prospect, from Class AAA Pawtucket.
The Blue Jays’ Danny Valencia celebrates after hitting a three-run home run against the Royals in the ninth inning Saturday at Kauffman Stadium. Toronto won, 6-2.
