New York City Coun­cil abruptly aban­doned plans to rein in Uber, drop­ping a fiercely con­tested pro­posal to cap the pow­er­ful tech and transit com­pany’s growth in its largest mar­ket.

The Euro­pean Union filed an­titrust claims against a Bri­tish broad­caster and six ma­jor U.S. film stu­dios, in­clud­ing Dis­ney and NBC Uni­ver­sal, ac­cus­ing the com­pa­nies of un­fairly lim­it­ing panEuro­pean ac­cess to pro­gram­ming on pay-TV ser­vices.

The price in­dex for eggs, which tracks the av­er­age na­tional in­crease peo­ple have to pay, rose by al­most 20 per­cent in June, on the heels of an avian flu out­break. Spend­ing on po­lit­i­cal TV advertising is ex­pected to jump 16 per­cent, to a record $4.4 bil­lion, in the 2016 pres­i­den­tial cy­cle com­pared with four years ago.
