Car bombs kill at least 18 in Bagh­dad:

Sui­cide car bomb at­tacks killed at least 18 peo­ple in Bagh­dad on Satur­day, po­lice and med­i­cal sources said. The at­tacks tar­geted the mainly Shi­ite dis­tricts of Kad­himiyah and Hur­riya in the north­ern part of the city. Po­lice said at least 60 peo­ple were wounded. The Is­lamic State, which con­trols large parts of north­ern and western Iraq, said it car­ried out the at­tacks.

Saudis ar­rest two sus­pected bombers: Saudi Ara­bia said Satur­day it had ar­rested a Syr­ian man and a Filipino woman for al­legedly man­u­fac­tur­ing sui­cide­bomb belts in the king­dom’s cap­i­tal. The of­fi­cial Saudi Press Agency re­ported that the two were ar­rested in Riyadh. It said the woman sewed ex­plo­sive belts for the Syr­ian, who ar­rived in Saudi Ara­bia in 2010. It also said she wore such a belt when the man was away. Mali ex­changes 30 rebels for 16 sol­diers: Mali’s gov­ern­ment has ex­changed 30 sep­a­ratist rebels for the re­lease of 16 sol­diers, the gov­ern­ment and a rebel group said Satur­day, a move that shows progress af­ter vi­o­lence in Au­gust threat­ened to dis­rupt a peace ac­cord.
