Car bombs kill at least 18 in Baghdad:
Suicide car bomb attacks killed at least 18 people in Baghdad on Saturday, police and medical sources said. The attacks targeted the mainly Shiite districts of Kadhimiyah and Hurriya in the northern part of the city. Police said at least 60 people were wounded. The Islamic State, which controls large parts of northern and western Iraq, said it carried out the attacks.
Saudis arrest two suspected bombers: Saudi Arabia said Saturday it had arrested a Syrian man and a Filipino woman for allegedly manufacturing suicidebomb belts in the kingdom’s capital. The official Saudi Press Agency reported that the two were arrested in Riyadh. It said the woman sewed explosive belts for the Syrian, who arrived in Saudi Arabia in 2010. It also said she wore such a belt when the man was away. Mali exchanges 30 rebels for 16 soldiers: Mali’s government has exchanged 30 separatist rebels for the release of 16 soldiers, the government and a rebel group said Saturday, a move that shows progress after violence in August threatened to disrupt a peace accord.
