Pales­tinian is killed af­ter fa­tal at­tack

A Pales­tinian fa­tally stabbed two Is­raeli men as they walked in Jerusalem’s Old City and se­ri­ously in­jured a tod­dler and a woman be­fore he was shot and killed by an of­fi­cer on duty, po­lice said Satur­day.

Po­lice later iden­ti­fied the at­tacker as a 19-year-old from alBireh, near Ra­mal­lah.

Both Is­raeli men died from their wounds, po­lice said, adding that the mother and the tod­dler were in se­ri­ous con­di­tion.

It was the latest in a se­ries of deadly Pales­tinian at­tacks against Is­raeli civil­ians. On Thurs­day, sus­pected Pales­tinian gun­men killed an Is­raeli cou­ple in front of their chil­dren as they drove in the West Bank.

Ha­mas, the Is­lamist mil­i­tant group that con­trols the Gaza Strip, is­sued a state­ment prais­ing Satur­day’s at­tack, which it called “heroic.” Pales­tinian Pres­i­dent Mah­moud Ab­bas has not com­mented.
