Cardinals 8, Nationals 5

HIGHEST WIN EXPECTANCY 82 percent

The Washington Post Sunday - - SPORTS -

Synopsis: This was the first in a week of bullpen meltdowns. Nursing a two-run lead, Casey Janssen got in a jam but had two outs. Twice he had two strikes on the potential final out and couldn’t put the batters away. Stephen Piscotty smacked an RBI single, and then Jhonny Peralta did the same. Drew Storen was unavailable because of his workload, so Felipe Rivero relieved Janssen and gave up a go-ahead two-run double to Jason Heyward and an RBI single to Kolten Wong. The Nationals had the tying run at the plate in the ninth against Trevor Rosenthal, but Anthony Rendon ran into an out, Ryan Zimmerman popped out and Clint Robinson struck out.
