Mets 3, Nationals 1
HIGHEST WIN EXPECTANCY 73 percent
Synopsis: In some ways, opening day was a preview of what was to come: The Nationals blew a lead against the Mets, with pitching and fielding miscues — particularly Ian Desmond’s — as chief reasons. Max Scherzer, in his first Nationals start, dueled Bartolo Colon for five innings. But with two outs in the sixth, Desmond’s error on a a popup in short right field led to two unearned runs. In the seventh, Desmond was charged with a throwing error on what would have been the inning’s second out. The next batter, Travis d’Arnaud, smacked an RBI triple off Scherzer.
