Durant eyes owner’s box
Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant made an appearance on ESPN’s “Fantasy Football Focus” podcast with Matthew Berry and Field Yates and talked about his fantasy prowess and his love of football. He even hinted at wanting to own an NFL franchise.
Durant is 5-0 in fantasy football this season. His draft strategy is to avoid taking two QBs, instead taking the loss during a bye and weathering the storm with more/better position players. Hey, it apparently works: He’s at the top of a league that includes the network’s foremost fantasy guru.
Then Durant naturally branched out into his own desires in the NFL.
“I love football, man. It’s a passion of mine. I would definitely love to own a team, you know hopefully one of these years, towards the end of my career,” the 27-year-old superstar said.
“[Owning a team] would be cool. My first priority would be the Washington Redskins, but I, even if it’s a small percentage, man, I just want to be involved, you know. Growing up five minutes away from the stadium and always being a fan, I got a Redskin tattoo on my forearm, so I feel a part of the team so much. And just to be, you know, feel like a owner, man, and just be all the way entrenched with the team, that would be cool for me. But if any other team presents itself, I would love to take it.”
Durant also had time for some chalk talk on the show. He’s not quite sure what to do about the running back combo of Matt Jones and Alfred Morris (a.k.a “Mojo”). At this point, Durant said, it’s a great problem to have.
“I think they’re both so good, man, that you can’t just give one guy all the carries and expect another guy to be I guess, like, the backup. You know? I think they’re so good you might have to split those touches. Alfred has been a workhorse for us,” he said.
“Jones is just coming into his own, and you know, they got to utilize that opportunity and find out who’s the best player to put on the field. . . . They’re doing a fine job. I know Alfred probably wants more carries than he’s been given.”
