Woman dies after car strikes traffic pole
A Howard County woman was killed shortly after midnight Saturday when the vehicle she was driving struck a traffic pole along Georgia Avenue in Rockville, Montgomery County police said.
Penelope Ann Garland, 68, of the 3500 block of Daisy Lane in Woodbine, Md., was transported to Suburban Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.
In a release, police said officers were responding to a call at about 12:05 a.m. when they observed Garland’s vehicle traveling southbound on Georgia Avenue at a high speed without its headlights on. “Before officers could take action, the vehicle, for reasons still under investigation, left the road and struck a traffic pole at Georgia Avenue and the [Intercounty Connector],” police said.
The agency asked anyone with information to contact detectives with the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620.
