Jay Gruden was sharply critical of his play-calling following Sunday’s overtime loss to Atlanta. Gruden’s caution is understandable, given that he has a turnover-prone quarterback in Kirk Cousins and lacks his big-play wide receiver in DeSean Jackson, as well as his go-to tight end on third downs in Jordan Reed. But the problem with dinking and dunking down the field is that it almost invites defenses to load up against the run. The Falcons did just that.
