Bodies of migrants wash ashore
Libya’s Red Crescent said Saturday that the bodies of 40 migrants have washed ashore after a boat reportedly capsized in the Mediterranean Sea.
Spokesman Mohamed alMasrati said 27 bodies were found Saturday in the western town of Zliten, east of the capital, Tripoli. The rest were found along the shores of Tripoli and the nearby town of Khoms.
The migrants are part of the exodus of tens of thousands fleeing turmoil and poverty to seek a better life in Europe.
Al-Masrati said most of the migrants were from sub-Saharan African countries. He said search efforts are underway for another 30 migrants believed to be on the capsized boat.
