Bod­ies of mi­grants wash ashore

Libya’s Red Cres­cent said Satur­day that the bod­ies of 40 mi­grants have washed ashore af­ter a boat re­port­edly cap­sized in the Mediter­ranean Sea.

Spokesman Mo­hamed alMas­rati said 27 bod­ies were found Satur­day in the western town of Zliten, east of the cap­i­tal, Tripoli. The rest were found along the shores of Tripoli and the nearby town of Khoms.

The mi­grants are part of the ex­o­dus of tens of thou­sands flee­ing tur­moil and poverty to seek a bet­ter life in Europe.

Al-Mas­rati said most of the mi­grants were from sub-Sa­ha­ran African coun­tries. He said search ef­forts are un­der­way for an­other 30 mi­grants be­lieved to be on the cap­sized boat.
