Wizards waive five, reach 15-man roster

The Washington Post Sunday - - WASHINGTONPOST.COM/SPORTS - — Jorge Castillo

The Washington Wizards waived Ish Smith, Toure’ Murry, Josh

Harrellson, Jaleel Roberts and Jaron Johnson on Saturday to trim their roster to the maximum 15 players allowed for the regular season before the NBA’s 5 p.m. deadline.

The cuts were expected. All five players signed non-guaranteed contracts, and the Wizards already had 15 players with guaranteed deals. Barring a catastrophic injury or a breakout preseason, none of the five additions were going to make the roster, and neither occurred. A couple cuts would have been made sooner if not for all the injuries the Wizards faced during the preseason.

The Wizards completed their preseason with a 92-82 loss to the Toronto Raptors in Montreal on Friday and open the regular season on the road against the Orlando Magic on Wednesday.
