Lisa M. Fair­fax, a pro­fes­sor at Ge­orge Wash­ing­ton Univer­sity Law School, and Hester Peirce, a former Sen­ate Bank­ing Com­mit­tee staffer, were nom­i­nated by Pres­i­dent Obama to serve on the U.S. Se­cu­ri­ties and Ex­change Com­mis­sion.

Obama is urg­ing Congress to help Puerto Rico deal with its financial woes, in­clud­ing grant­ing a type of bank­ruptcy pro­tec­tion un­avail­able to the na­tion’s 50 states.
