Where will alternate reality lead?
Dana Milbank suggested in his Jan. 26 Washington Sketch column, “‘Dead cat’ tactics allow outrages to fly under the radar,” that President Trump’s insistence that millions have voted illegally in the face of a total lack of evidence and his launching an investigation of this fictional problem are efforts to distract the public from the administration’s controversial policy initiatives. But something more frightening is going on. In the alternate universe constructed out of the delusions in which the president operates, there really were 5 million illegal votes cast. Therefore, in this alternate universe, complete with its alternate facts, an investigation was warranted. What happens when, in this alternate universe, Canada threatens a nuclear attack on Chicago?
