Patriots knock o≠ a nemesis in the A-10
GEORGE MASON 73, FORDHAM 67
Otis Livingston scored 19 points, Marquise Moore and Jalen Jenkins had double-doubles, and George Mason held on to defeat visiting Fordham, 73-67, on Saturday night at EagleBank Arena for the Patriots’ first-ever win over the Rams in seven meetings.
Moore had 15 points, 11 rebounds and six assists, and Jenkins had 12 points and 13 rebounds for George Mason (17-8, 7-6 Atlantic 10), which celebrated homecoming with its third straight win.
George Mason was up 61-48 with 8:54 to play when the Rams (10-15, 4-8) reeled off 12 straight, with Antwoine Anderson making two inside baskets and Joseph Chartouny back-to-back threepointers. The teams traded free throws before Jenkins made a layup with a minute left to end a Patriots field goal drought of 7:54.
George Mason then went 8 for 8 from the line to secure the win.
GEORGE WASHINGTON 76, ST. BONAVENTURE 70: Tyler Cavanaugh scored a careerhigh 33 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to help the Colonials end a three-game skid by beating the Bonnies at Smith Center.
Cavanaugh was 9 for 19 from the field and 13 for 14 from the free throw line for the Colonials (13-12, 5-7 Atlantic 10). Jaren Sina added 22 points and seven rebounds.
Jaylen Adams and David Andoh led the Bonnies (15-9, 7-5) as they outscored the Colonials 2412 to pull within 64-63 with 4:45 to play. St. Bonaventure was still threatening when Cavanaugh sank a layup to make it 70-66 with 59 seconds left.
Andoh finished with 20 points and six rebounds for the Bonnies.
AMERICAN 61, ARMY 58: Lonnie Rivera and Charlie Jones tallied 13 points apiece, Delante Jones added nine, and the Eagles snapped a six-game losing streak with a win over the Black Knights in West Point, N.Y.
Charlie Jones did not miss a shot for American (6-19, 3-11 Patriot), finishing 4 for 4 from the field and the free throw line, and he added seven rebounds.
Army (9-17, 3-11) had a chance to tie at the end of regulation after two missed free throws from Delante Jones, but Tommy Funk’s three-pointer at the buzzer came up short.
Funk led Army with 14 points but committed seven turnovers.
NAVY 68, LAFAYETTE 60: Bryce Dulin scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds, Shawn Anderson added 11 points, and the Midshipmen shot 60 percent in the second half to overcome a slow start and beat the Leopards at Alumni Hall.
Navy (15-11, 10-4 Patriot League) made just 8 of 30 from the field (26.7 percent) in the first half, including 2 of 12 from beyond the arc. The Midshipmen hit 7 of 11 three-pointers after halftime.
Nick Lindner made 8 of 9 free throws and finished with 23 points for Lafayette (7-18, 3-11).
HAMPTON 75, HOWARD 61: Jermaine Marrow scored 23 points and made 11 of 12 free throws to lead the Pirates (11-13, 8-3 Mid-Eastern Athletic) over the Bison (5-20, 2-8) in Hampton, Va.
A.J. Astroth scored 14 points for Hampton.
James Miller scored 20 points for Howard, which has lost 14 straight in the series.
RICHMOND 64, LA SALLE 52: T.J. Cline scored 21 points to help the Spiders capture a road win over the Explorers in Philadelphia.
Richmond (15-9, 9-3 Atlantic 10) has won four of five.
B.J. Johnson had 18 points to lead La Salle (13-10, 7-5).
VCU 74, DAVIDSON 60: JeQuan Lewis scored 27 points, and the Rams pulled away from a tie with a 19-8 run in the second half to beat the Wildcats in Richmond.
Justin Tillman added 13 points and 16 rebounds as the Rams (20-5, 10-2 Atlantic 10) won their sixth in a row and kept pace with Dayton atop the league.
Jack Gibbs scored 27 points for Davidson (12-11, 5-7).
