Ex-council member Crawford eulogized
Major D.C. political figures, past and present, gathered at a Southeast Washington church Saturday to pay final respects to former D.C. Council member H.R. Crawford.
Crawford, who died Feb. 10 at age 78, was remembered at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church as a zealous advocate for residents of Ward 7 and for a long, sometimes controversial, career as a real estate developer and federal housing official.
“He was smart, strategic, and he knew how to make things happen, and we knew we had to close ranks and follow him,” former mayor Sharon Pratt Kelly (D) told the packed crowd.
