leads to cat­a­combs in cen­tral Egypt’s Minya prov­ince, where Egyp­tian ar­chae­ol­o­gists dis­cov­ered 17 non­royal mum­mies in the Touna el-Gabal district, an “un­prece­dented” find for the area south of Cairo, the An­tiq­ui­ties Min­istry said. In ad­di­tion, the ar­chae­ol­o­gists found a golden sheet and two pa­pyri in De­motic — an an­cient Egyp­tian script — and a num­ber of sar­cophagi made of lime­stone and clay.
