Getting bigger: Sandy Spring Bancorp in Olney, Md., last week announced plans to buy Restonbased WashingtonFirst Bankshares for $489 million. The combined bank would have 63 branches and roughly $5.47 billion in deposits. The deal, awaiting approval from regulators and shareholders, is slated to be finalized by the end of the year.
Land grab: CoStar Group, the Washington-based provider of commercial real estate data, said it has acquired LandWatch.com, operator of a listing site dedicated to land and rural properties. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Now open: The Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in National Harbor officially unveiled its new 16,000-square-foot RiverView Ballroom as the competition ramps up for venues capable of hosting weddings, galas, and corporate and social functions. The venue offers panoramic views of the Potomac River from 270-degree floor-toceiling windows.
