Get­ting big­ger: Sandy Spring Ban­corp in Ol­ney, Md., last week an­nounced plans to buy Re­ston­based Wash­ing­tonFirst Bankshares for $489 mil­lion. The com­bined bank would have 63 branches and roughly $5.47 bil­lion in de­posits. The deal, await­ing ap­proval from reg­u­la­tors and share­hold­ers, is slated to be fi­nal­ized by the end of the year.

Land grab: CoS­tar Group, the Wash­ing­ton-based provider of com­mer­cial real es­tate data, said it has ac­quired, op­er­a­tor of a list­ing site ded­i­cated to land and ru­ral prop­er­ties. Fi­nan­cial terms were not dis­closed.

Now open: The Gay­lord Na­tional Re­sort & Convention Cen­ter in Na­tional Har­bor of­fi­cially un­veiled its new 16,000-square-foot RiverView Ball­room as the com­pe­ti­tion ramps up for venues ca­pa­ble of host­ing wed­dings, galas, and cor­po­rate and so­cial func­tions. The venue of­fers panoramic views of the Po­tomac River from 270-de­gree floor-to­ceil­ing win­dows.
