Man is fa­tally shot in Ge­orge­town

One man was killed and an­other was wounded in a shoot­ing in Ge­orge­town early Satur­day, ac­cord­ing to D.C. po­lice.

The shoot­ing hap­pened in the 3500 block of Wa­ter Street shortly be­fore 3 a.m., po­lice said.

Kennedy Javier AmayaOli­vares, 19, of Sev­ern, Md., died at the scene, po­lice said. A second vic­tim, whose name has not been dis­closed, was taken to a hos­pi­tal for treat­ment of se­ri­ous in­juries.

No ar­rests were made in con­nec­tion with the shoot­ing, and po­lice did not com­ment on a pos­si­ble mo­tive.

The shoot­ing oc­curred on a street be­low the White­hurst Free­way and the Key Bridge nearby pop­u­lar boathouses for ca­noe­ing, kayak­ing and rowing and close to the Cap­i­tal Cres­cent Trail used daily by run­ners, hik­ers and cy­clists.
