Boy who had heart trans­plant dies

A 5-year-old boy whose re­ac­tion to learn­ing he’d be re­ceiv­ing a new heart cap­ti­vated peo­ple on so­cial me­dia ear­lier this year died Fri­day evening in Mas­sachusetts, his fam­ily said.

Ari Schultz died while lis­ten­ing to his beloved Bos­ton Red Sox, his fam­ily said on Face­book. The post did not give the cause of death.

Ari, who was born with a heart syn­drome, waited more than 200 days for a heart trans­plant at a Bos­ton hos­pi­tal in March. His par­ents had posted a YouTube video of them telling him he was get­ting a new heart. It drew more than 450,000 views.

Ari’s fa­ther said in the post that Ari had a seizure Thurs­day and was taken to the hos­pi­tal. He was later placed on life sup­port.
