Woman pleads guilty in beating death
A 67-year-old District woman Friday pleaded guilty to fatally beating her 63-year-old boyfriend with a baseball bat in her Northeast Washington apartment this year.
Thomasine Bennett pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the Feb. 17 death of Walter M. Clark, whose body was found in the hallway closet of her apartment in the 700 block of 21st Street NE in the Carver Langston neighborhood.
Police were called to Bennett’s apartment to investigate a call about trouble inside the residence. While in the apartment, police discovered Clark’s body curled up and covered with multiple bruises. The closet door had been barricaded with a two-by-four.
An autopsy revealed Clark died from multiple force trauma. Bennett has remained in the D.C. jail since her arrest.
Bennett is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 22 by Judge Jose M. Lopez, should the judge agree to accept Bennett’s plea deal.
As part of the plea agreement, Bennett faces 10 years in prison.
