Hamas agrees to talks with Fatah, Palestinian elections:

The Washington Post Sunday - - THE WORLD -

The Palestinian group Hamas has agreed to participate in talks with the rival Fatah movement, to dissolve the Gaza administrative committee and to hold general elections, the group said in a statement Sunday. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’s Western-backed Palestinian Authority, controlled by Fatah, fought a war with Hamas over the Gaza Strip in 2007, which led to Hamas taking over the territory. Attempts to reconcile the two and form a power-sharing unity government in Gaza and the West Bank have failed.
