Jack­son hits mile­stone as Car­di­nals hand Cava­liers third de­feat in four games

La­mar Jack­son ac­counted for four touch­downs, and host Louisville’s de­fense posted one of its best ef­forts of the sea­son to beat Vir­ginia, 38-21, on Satur­day.

The Car­di­nals (6-4, 3-3 ACC) re­turned from a bye to out­gain the Cava­liers 493-277. Vir­ginia (6-4, 3-3) man­aged just 115 yards af­ter half­time.

Jack­son be­came the first player in NCAA his­tory to post two sea­sons with 1,000 yards rush­ing and 3,000 yards pass­ing. The ju­nior threw for 195 yards and three touch­downs, two to Jaylen Smith.

The Cava­liers, who lost for the third time in four games, trailed only 17-14 at half­time. But the of­fense stalled un­til Jor­dan El­lis’s three-yard touch­down run late in the game. They also al­lowed four sacks and com­mit­ted two turnovers lead­ing to 10 points.

OLD DO­MIN­ION 37, FLORIDA IN­TER­NA­TIONAL 30: Steven Wil­liams passed for two touch­downs and Ray Lawry rushed for a pair of scores as the Mon­archs (4-6, 2-4 Con­fer­ence USA) held off the Golden Pan­thers (6-3, 4-2) in Mi­ami.

HOWARD 28, NOR­FOLK STATE 24: Caylin New­ton scored on a two-yard run with five sec­onds left to give the Bi­son their fifth straight win, a vic­tory over the Spar­tans at Greene Sta­dium.

Dez­mond Wortham scored on a three-yard run to cut Howard’s deficit to 24-21. Af­ter the de­fense forced Nor­folk State (3-7, 3-4 MEAC) to punt, New­ton led Howard (7-3, 6-1) on a 12-play, 89-yard drive for the win­ning score.

DELAWARE STATE 33, MOR­GAN STATE 30: Keenan Black tossed a touch­down pass to Trey Gross with nine sec­onds left, then threw for the two-point con­ver­sion to give the Hor­nets (2-8, 2-6 MEAC) a win over the Bears (1-9, 1-6) in Dover, Del.

JAMES MADI­SON 20, RICH­MOND 13: Trai Sharp scored the go-ahead touch­down with 44 sec­onds left, and the Dukes ex­tended their win­ning streak to 22 with a vic­tory over the Spi­ders in Harrisonburg, Va.

The Dukes (10-0, 7-0 CAA) called Sharp’s num­ber on seven of 10 plays in their go-ahead, 71-yard drive. Sharp capped the surge with a seven-yard run to inch past the Spi­ders (5-5, 3-4).

TOW­SON 26, WIL­LIAM AND MARY 14: Coby Tip­pett re­turned a punt 62 yards for a score, and Tow­son (4-6, 2-5 CAA) shut out the Tribe (2-8, 0-7) in the sec­ond half in Wil­liams­burg, Va.

BUCK­NELL 12, GE­ORGE­TOWN 0: The Hoyas (1-9, 0-5 Pa­triot League) man­aged just eight first downs in a loss to the Bi­son (5-5, 2-3) in Lewis­burg, Pa.

CATHOLIC 33, MAINE MAR­ITIME 14: Led by three pass­ing touch­downs by Brady Berger, the Car­di­nals (5-5) beat the Mariners (1-8) in Cas­tine, Maine.

SUNY MAR­ITIME 54, GALLAUDET 14: The Pri­va­teers (9-1, 6-1 East­ern Collegiate Foot­ball Con­fer­ence) raced to a 40-0 half­time lead to han­dle the Bi­son (3-7, 3-4) in Throggs Neck, N.Y.
