Summer-style storms drop hail

The Washington Post Sunday - - LOCAL OPINIONS - BY MARTIN WEIL martin.weil@washpost.com

As lightning bolts crackled from the skies, intense thunderstorms swept across parts of the Washington region Saturday night, adding to the suggestion of summertime created by the day’s 90-degree high temperatures.

As it swept to the southeast, toward Annapolis and the Chesapeake Bay, the storm front seemed to stretch along a line from below Washington to above Baltimore.

“It looked like a tornado,” a woman in Baltimore said on Twitter. Trees toppled in some spots and hail clattered on pavements.
