Ahmadinejad disqualified from presidential race:

The Washington Post - - THE WORLD -

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and rival Ebrahim Raisi were approved to run in May’s presidential election by a vetting body. But former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was disqualified, state media reported Thursday. The approval of Rouhani, a moderate, and Raisi, a hard-liner, sets up a showdown between rival camps. Ahmadinejad, who remains a polarizing figure, shocked the country by registering last week. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had previously urged him not to run.
