Ahoy, mateys! Tell the land­lub­ber who wrote about a re­cent north­ern voy­age in the Sept. 5 front-page ar­ti­cle “Cold po­lit­i­cal truth emerges in Arc­tic” that ships don’t go left or right; they turn to port or star­board. Their speed is mea­sured in knots, not miles per hour. And while you can drive a ship (if it has a mo­tor), bet­ter verb choices would be “nav­i­gate,” “pi­lot,” “ma­neu­ver” or even “sail.”
