New top prosecutor confirmed by Senate
Jessie K. Liu was confirmed Thursday by the Senate as the District’s U.S. attorney and could take office as early as next week.
Liu will take over the office held by Channing D. Phillips. It handles local and federal cases, from street crimes to national security prosecutions.
Liu, 44, was a deputy assistant attorney general under former president George W. Bush. He also served on President Trump’s Justice Department transition team and as Treasury deputy general counsel.
