A man was arrested Friday in connection with the hit-and-run death of a cyclist last month, D.C. police said.

Police said Thomas Hendricks Hollowell, 64, of Arlington was pedaling east on Sept. 24 in the 1200 block of Constitution Avenue NW when struck. The motorist ran through a red light and drove off, police said. Phillip Peoples, 20, of Suitland, Md., was charged with second-degree murder, police said.

Hollowell was hit near the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, where he worked. In a statement released Friday, the museum said staff members continued to mourn Hollowell, who “was a valued member of our community.”
