Djokovic, Murray, Federer reach semifinals in Dubai
DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES | Novak Djokovic defeated fellow Serb Janko Tipsarevic 6-1, 7-6 (6) Thursday to set up a Dubai Championships semifinal with Andy Murray, who he beat in a marathon five-setter at the Australian Open last month.
Roger Federer will face Juan Martin del Potro in the other semifinal at Aviation Club. Del Potro beat Jo-wilfried Tsonga 7-6 (1), 6-2 for the second time in two weeks. Murray advanced by defeating fifth-seeded Tomas Berdych 6-3, 7-5. Roger Federer had another routine encounter, stopping Mikhail Youzhny 6-3, 6-4.
After a couple of days off, the Caps continue their desperate playoff push as New Jersey visits Verizon Center (7 p.m., CSN), but you can start your sports viewing a bit earlier with the second round of the PGA’S Honda Classic (3 p.m., Golf Channel). Or just go all day with the ACC women’s basketball tourney starting at 11 a.m. on CSN and CSN+.
With the Big East tournament looming, Georgetown travels to Marquette for its final regular-season game (2 p.m., MASN). In Richmond, the CAA tournament heats up as VCU has its opener (6 p.m., CSN+), followed by George Mason (8:30 p.m., CSN+). And a bid will be handed to the Atlantic Sun champ (7 p.m., ESPN2).
Spring is in the air, and that means baseball’s back. Catch the Nats on TV for the first time this season in a Grapefruit League game against the Astros (1 p.m., MASN).
