Assembly considering ban on smoking in car with a child

The Washington Times Daily - - Metro -

The General Assembly will consider a bill Tuesday that would ban motorists from smoking when sharing a vehicle with a young child.

The House and the Senate each are expected to debate the legislation, which would impose a maximum $50 fine on any driver or passenger caught smoking in a vehicle with a child younger than 8.

Supporters say the bill will protect children’s health but opponents say the state could be overstepping its boundaries by restricting motorists’ behavior in their own vehicles.
