Public school briefly evac­u­ated

A public school in North­west was briefly evac­u­ated Wed­nes­day af­ter a sus­pi­cious white pow­der was dis­cov­ered in a let­ter, but po­lice de­ter­mined the sub­stance was not haz­ardous and stu­dents have re­turned to the school.

A spokes­woman for D.C. Public Schools said the let­ter con­tain­ing the white sub­stance was re­ceived at the Adams cam­pus of the Oys­ter-adams Bilin­gual School. She said no stu­dents were ex­posed to the sub­stance and po­lice were con­tacted.

Met­ro­pol­i­tan Po­lice Depart­ment spokesman Of­fi­cer Araz Alali said of­fi­cers de­ter­mined the sub­stance was not haz­ardous and stu­dents re­turned to class shortly be­fore 12:30 p.m.

The school’s web­site says fourth­graders through eighth-graders at­tend school at the Adams cam­pus.
