Public school briefly evacuated
A public school in Northwest was briefly evacuated Wednesday after a suspicious white powder was discovered in a letter, but police determined the substance was not hazardous and students have returned to the school.
A spokeswoman for D.C. Public Schools said the letter containing the white substance was received at the Adams campus of the Oyster-adams Bilingual School. She said no students were exposed to the substance and police were contacted.
Metropolitan Police Department spokesman Officer Araz Alali said officers determined the substance was not hazardous and students returned to class shortly before 12:30 p.m.
The school’s website says fourthgraders through eighth-graders attend school at the Adams campus.
