Train hits tow truck in midst of re­mov­ing car

A CSX freight train struck a tow truck that was in the midst of pulling a car off the rail­road tracks Satur­day night in Riverdale Park, au­thor­i­ties said.

Riverdale Park po­lice said they called a tow truck to get a stuck Lexus off the tracks. But be­fore the car could be re­moved, both ve­hi­cles were hit by the train at about 8:45 p.m. No­body was in ei­ther ve­hi­cle at the time.

It was not clear whether the train’s op­er­a­tor had been warned about the cars on the track. Po­lice said the driver of the Lexus was ar­rested on a charge of driv­ing un­der the in­flu­ence.
