Af­ter­shocks from 2011 quake con­tinue in ru­ral ar­eas

Virginia con­tin­ues to ex­pe­ri­ence af­ter­shocks from last sum­mer’s earth­quake.

The U.S. Ge­o­log­i­cal Sur­vey said a mag­ni­tude 3.1 af­ter­shock oc­curred at 11:21 p.m. Sun­day eight miles south of Louisa and eight miles south-south­west of Min­eral.

Min­eral was the epi­cen­ter of the mag­ni­tude 5.8 earth­quake that struck on Aug. 23, 2011. No dam­age has been re­ported. Dozens of af­ter­shocks have oc­curred since the earth­quake. Seis­mol­o­gists
