Abortion disproportionately hits blacks

The Washington Times Daily - - Opinion -

The point of much of the media attention paid to the death of Trayvon Martin seems to be to divert attention of a key voting bloc — black Americans — away from matters such as abortion.

Democrats are members of the proabortion party, the ones who want abortions to remain legal and want to keep taxpayers funding abortion and Planned Parenthood. Democratic policies have resulted in black women undergoing 35 percent of the 52 million abortions performed. The black population in the United States is at least 30 percent smaller and has about 8 million fewer potential voters because of abortion.

While the Trayvon Martin case has focused on one person’s death, there is silence about the more than 18 million black babies who have been killed by abortion. While the teenager’s killing appears to have been unplanned, abortions are just the opposite. Just as Trayvon did not deserve death, neither did those innocent unborn babies.

Some people have suggested that Trayvon was targeted because he was black. Shouldn’t we likewise suspect that blacks are targeted when 13 percent of the nation’s population undergoes 35 percent of all abortions?

Where are investigations by the NAACP, the Congressional Black Caucus, the U.S. Civil Rights Commission and the Revs. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson about the disproportionately large number of abortions in the black community? Why do most black votes go to Democrats when their party’s abortion policies have done so much harm to the black community?

I hope and pray the black community will one day wake up to what’s going on with regard to abortion. ROBERT BOUDREAUX Waldorf, Md.
