Brown University president looking into Kelly protest
PROVIDENCE | Brown University’s president says she is looking into the events that led to a rowdy protest that shut down a speech by New York City Police Commissioner Ray Kelly.
Christina Paxson says in a campuswide letter Wednesday that she is forming a faculty-student committee to examine the Oct. 29 incident.
Mr. Kelly’s speech had to be canceled when students and members of the broader community refused to let him speak. They were protesting his department’s “stop and frisk” policy.
Ms. Paxson previously has called the disruption an affront to the Ivy League university’s core values.
She says the committee will look at how the event was managed. She also says she will use the findings to help
