County police trainee killed in auto accident
A police trainee was killed in a traffic accident in Upper Marlboro early Sunday, Prince George’s County police said.
Jerrell Lamont Wedge, 24, of Upper Marlboro, was killed when his car left the roadway and struck a tree around 3:30 a.m., police said.
Mr. Wedge was attending the Prince George’s County Police Department’s training academy as a recruit for the Maryland-National Capital Park Police, Prince George’s County Division.
Police said the incident is under review and that the preliminary investigation suggests that speed was a factor. block of Palco Place for a house fire about 5 a.m.
Firefighters found boxes and materials stacked from floor to ceiling in the home that made it difficult for them to move around.
An 80-year-old woman was able to get out of the two-story house. Fire officials said she was in serious but stable condition Sunday at a hospital.
The man found inside the home was believed to be the 82-year-old homeowner. Officials said an autopsy was required to confirm the victim’s identity.
Investigators were trying to determine what caused the fire.
