Woman struck by Metro train dies

A woman was struck by a train at the Sil­ver Spring Metro sta­tion on Sun­day af­ter­noon and later died, tran­sit of­fi­cials said.

Metro spokes­woman Caro­line Lau­rin said it ap­peared to be an ac­ci­dent but the cir­cum­stances of the in­ci­dent were un­clear.

The uniden­ti­fied woman was res­cued at about 2 p.m. and taken to a hos­pi­tal, where she died.

The Sil­ver Spring sta­tion was tem­po­rar­ily closed, and trains were sin­gle­track­ing on the Red Line be­tween Sil­ver Spring and For­est Glen for part of the af­ter­noon.
