$195K in back taxes be­ing sought from ex-mayor

DETROIT | The bill is grow­ing for for­mer Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick.

The gov­ern­ment wants Kilpatrick to pay $195,000 for tax crimes com­mit­ted while in of­fice. That’s on top of $4.5 mil­lion in resti­tution to Detroit for other con­vic­tions from his cor­rup­tion trial.

The tax fig­ure was dis­closed in a court fil­ing Tues­day. Kilpatrick is serv­ing a 28-year sen­tence for rig­ging con­tracts, tak­ing bribes and other cor­rupt acts.

U.S. Dis­trict Judge Nancy Ed­munds will hold a hear­ing on resti­tution on Dec. 10. It could be Kilpatrick’s last ap­pear­ance in Detroit un­less his con­vic­tions are over­turned on ap­peal.
