Park Po­lice chief an­nounces re­tire­ment

The chief of the United States Park Po­lice has an­nounced her re­tire­ment.

Chief Teresa Cham­bers said Thurs­day she plans to re­tire on Dec. 5, her 35th an­niver­sary in law en­force­ment. She said it’s time to pur­sue new op­por­tu­ni­ties. Chief Cham­bers took over the Park Po­lice in Fe­bru­ary 2002 but was dis­missed two years later af­ter speak­ing out in a news­pa­per in­ter­view about a lack of staffing and funds for her agency. She was ul­ti­mately re­in­stated in 2011 af­ter a long le­gal fight.
