SEATTLE | Washington forward Shawn Kemp Jr. has been diagnosed with Graves’ disease, an autoimmune condition affecting the thyroid, but he will continue playing for the Huskies.

The school announced Kemp’s condition Tuesday. He was officially diagnosed in early September and was slowed during preseason practices due to the illness. Kemp first started having symptoms in late July.

Graves’ disease results in the overproduction of thyroid hormones.

The school’s medical staff has developed a treatment plan for Kemp and believes his on-court performance will not be affected once the plan is in full effect.

Kemp had to sit out much of the Huskies’ preseason practice because of the condition.
