Cal mov­ing home game vs. Ore­gon to new 49ers sta­dium

BERKE­LEY, CALIF. | Cal­i­for­nia is mov­ing its home game against Ore­gon next sea­son to the San Fran­cisco 49ers’ new sta­dium in Santa Clara.

The Nin­ers and Cal an­nounced Tues­day that the game played on Oct. 24 will be the first col­lege game played at Levi’s Sta­dium. The sta­dium is set to open next sum­mer.

Cal is re­quired to host a week­night game ev­ery two years un­der the Pac-12 tele­vi­sion con­tract and that can be prob­lem­atic on cam­pus where park­ing is limited.

Ath­letic di­rec­tor Sandy Bar­bour says mov­ing the game off-cam­pus will al­low the school more time to fig­ure out the best way to ac­com­mo­date those games.

Cal says mov­ing the game could pro­duce as much as $1 mil­lion in in­creased rev­enue com­pared to a home game on cam­pus.
