Nobel Prize-winning author Wole Soyinka said Thursday that he fulfilled his promise to throw away his United States green card and relocate if Donald Trump won the presidency.

“I’ve done it,” the Nigerian author told news channel eNCA on the sidelines of an education conference at the University of Johannesburg, Reuters reported.

“When I was ready, when I’d finished, I negotiated my departure,” he said.

Mr. Soyinka said Africans are worried that Mr. Trump could tarnish the legacy of President Obama, whose

father was Kenyan.

“We on the African continent could boast that we had a contemporary descendent ruling the United States,” he said. “Suddenly, somebody is making speeches which are meant to reverse those gains.”
