The Washington Times Daily - - METRO - — S.A. Miller

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser emerged Tuesday from a meeting with President-elect Donald Trump in New York City and declared he will be a friend to Washington, but she wouldn’t say if he supports D.C. statehood.

Statehood did come up during their meeting at Trump Tower, she said.

“We talked about the things that are important to Washingtonians, and certainly becoming the 51st state is one of them,” she told reporters.

Mr. Trump demonstrated a sincere commitment to the city, she said.

“Actually, the one thing I know emphatically that he said is that he is a supporter of the District of Columbia, he’s familiar with the District of Columbia, and he wants to be supportive,” Miss Bowser said.
