Redskins Host Pros vs. G.I. Joes Tournament At Fort Myer
Former Redskins Clinton Portis and Santana Moss visited military members at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall in Fort Myer Va., to participate in a Madden ‘17 video game tournament.
For several hours on Nov. 16, the USO Community Center at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall in Fort Myer, Va. was turned into video game central, connecting Redskins Alumni with active duty over a Madden NFL ‘17 tournament. During the inaugural Salute to Service week, Redskins Salute and the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation hosted the fourth annual Redskins Salute Pros vs. G.I. Joes event presented by EA Sports and Microsoft, which partnered with USO-Metro and non-profit Pro vs. GI Joe. This event brought out the competitive nature of former Redskins running back Clinton Portis and wide receiver Santana Moss, each of whom spent the day interacting and playing against military members.
“I’m actually getting back into the groove of things, I haven’t played in year,” Moss said. “I’m about to go get a game when I go home so I can keep it going. It’s fun.”
Prizes ranged from signed memorabilia to the grand prize, which included a brand new XBOX One, courtesy of Microsoft, and all gamers received their own copy of Madden ’17, courtesy of EA Sports.
“It’s a privilege just being surrounded by so many guys that fight for your country, day in and day out,” Moss said. “They tell us so many times that you guys are our heroes, but I’m like, they’re the true heroes, they’re the guys that are making it able for us to walk this earth with our freedoms.
