Suspect in police officer shootings confirmed dead
Law enforcement confirmed Thursday that the man accused of shooting two Georgia police officers is dead, ending a 24-hour manhunt.
Officials said Minquell Lembrick, 32, shot and killed himself after police surrounded the Americus home where he had holed up Thursday morning. Police received a tip he might be hiding inside the home and had surrounded it.
He was accused of killing Americus police Officer Nicholas Smarr and critically wounding Officer Jody Smith of Georgia Southwestern State University on Wednesday when they responded to a domestic disturbance call at an apartment complex near the university.
