Mack­owiak of­fers a Texan’s take on D.C.

The Wash­ing­ton Times’ new­est colum­nist will be of­fer­ing a Texas take on the do­ings along the Po­tomac as Pres­i­dent Trump sets up his ad­min­is­tra­tion and pre­pares to gov­ern.

Matt Mack­owiak’s “Out­side the Belt­way” de­buts Thurs­day and will run weekly in the Times’ po­lit­i­cal news sec­tion. The Austin-based Mr. Mack­owiak will also host a new na­tional pol­i­tics pod­cast pro­duced in part­ner­ship with The Wash­ing­ton Times, of­fer­ing prob­ing in­ter­views with key of­fi­cials and thought lead­ers at Wash­ing­ton­­OnPol­i­tics.

Mr. Mack­owiak has been a well-known fig­ure in Repub­li­can cir­cles for more than a decade, hav­ing served as a po­lit­i­cal con­sul­tant and as the press sec­re­tary to Repub­li­can Sens. Con­rad Burns of Mon­tana and Kay Bai­ley Hutchi­son of his na­tive Texas. He worked with the pres­i­den­tial ad­vance team in the Ge­orge W. Bush ad­min­is­tra­tion and on Mr. Bush’s suc­cess­ful 2004 re-elec­tion cam­paign

He can also be seen as a fre­quent com­men­ta­tor on pol­i­tics and pol­icy on Fox News, MSNBC, the BBC and other ma­jor me­dia out­lets, and has writ­ten for such pub­li­ca­tions as The New York Ob­server, The Hill and the Austin-Amer­i­can States­man.

The 2003 Univer­sity of Texas grad­u­ate is pres­i­dent of Po­tomac Strat­egy Group LLC, with of­fices in Austin and Wash­ing­ton. Mr. Mack­owiak and his wife Suzanne live in Austin where they are rais­ing “two spoiled dogs,” Ginny and Jas­mine.
