McAuliffe asks retired teachers to come work in Petersburg
Gov. Terry McAuliffe is asking retired schoolteachers across Virginia to consider returning to the classroom in Petersburg.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch reported that about 500 retired teachers received a later last week from Mr. McAuliffe, saying Petersburg City Schools is facing high turnover and teacher shortages.
He said the district currently has 22 vacancies. Mr. McAuliffe said the veteran teachers have the experience and expertise Petersburg schools need.
