Group protests Bolton snub as anti-mustache discrimination
The American Mustache Institute accused Donald Trump of “unacceptable mustache discrimination” after a report Thursday alleged the presidentelect passed up John R. Bolton for secretary of state because of his mustache.
The AMI, an advocacy group for “Mustached Americans,” issued a statement saying, “the Mustached American community is deeply troubled by a new administration erecting yet another obstacle towards a level playing field for people of Mustached American heritage.”
The statement came after The Washington Post reported that several of Mr. Trump’s associates said they thought Mr. Bolton’s “brushlike mustache” was one of the reasons the president-elect rejected him for secretary of state.
“Donald was not going to like that mustache,” one associate, who asked to remain anonymous, told The Post. “I can’t think of anyone that’s really close to Donald that has a beard that he likes.”
