Group protests Bolton snub as anti-mus­tache dis­crim­i­na­tion

The Amer­i­can Mus­tache In­sti­tute ac­cused Don­ald Trump of “un­ac­cept­able mus­tache dis­crim­i­na­tion” af­ter a re­port Thurs­day al­leged the pres­i­den­t­elect passed up John R. Bolton for sec­re­tary of state be­cause of his mus­tache.

The AMI, an ad­vo­cacy group for “Mus­tached Amer­i­cans,” is­sued a state­ment say­ing, “the Mus­tached Amer­i­can com­mu­nity is deeply trou­bled by a new ad­min­is­tra­tion erect­ing yet an­other ob­sta­cle to­wards a level play­ing field for peo­ple of Mus­tached Amer­i­can her­itage.”

The state­ment came af­ter The Wash­ing­ton Post re­ported that sev­eral of Mr. Trump’s as­so­ci­ates said they thought Mr. Bolton’s “brush­like mus­tache” was one of the rea­sons the pres­i­dent-elect re­jected him for sec­re­tary of state.

“Don­ald was not go­ing to like that mus­tache,” one as­so­ci­ate, who asked to re­main anony­mous, told The Post. “I can’t think of any­one that’s re­ally close to Don­ald that has a beard that he likes.”
