Asylum-seekers questioned in attempt to set vagrant ablaze
Surveillance video in Schoenlein-strasse captured a group of men on Christmas Day lighting the clothes on fire of a sleeping man. The 37-year-old individual escaped unharmed with the help of some good Samaritans passing by, but prosecutors are eyeing attempted murder charges for suspects as an investigation unfolds.
Officials said six of the suspects currently in custody are from Syria and one is from Libya, The Associated Press reported Tuesday. The men’s ages range from 15 to 21 years old.
Sunday’s crime comes just six days after Tunisian Anis Amri, 24, killed 12 and wounded 49 others in Berlin by careening a truck through a Christmas market. The terrorist pledged allegiance to the Islamic State terror group prior to dying in a shootout with cops in Milan, Italy, on Dec. 23.
