Age 38

Ge­orge Alex­ius Whit­ney, 38, of Wash­ing­ton D.C. passed away on De­cem­ber 18th while serv­ing his coun­try in Afghanistan. Born in Brat­tle­boro, VT on Fe­bru­ary 16th, 1978, Alexi, as he was known to his fam­ily, at­tended Brooks School in North An­dover and Bates Col­lege in Lewis­ton, ME. At Bates he was a start­ing full­back in foot­ball, start­ing mid­fielder in lacrosse and grad­u­ated Cum Laude with a ma­jor in Clas­sics.

Af­ter col­lege, Alexi served as a Cap­tain in the 3rd Marine Re­con­nais­sance Bat­tal­ion in An­bar, Iraq in 2005.

An avid reader and lover of his­tory and hor­ror movies, Alexi en­joyed spend­ing time out­doors, with an­i­mals, his col­leagues and fam­ily.

He is sur­vived by his mother, Caryn Whit­ney of Wilm­ing­ton, NC, his fa­ther Ge­orge Whit­ney III of Delray Beach, FL, sis­ter Larissa Whit­ney and brother Max­imil­lian Whit­ney, both of Brook­lyn, NY.

A me­mo­rial ser­vice will be held at Brooks School in North An­dover, MA on Jan­uary 22nd at two o’clock in the af­ter­noon, with a burial at Ar­ling­ton Na­tional Ceme­tery in Ar­ling­ton, VA in the spring.
